Wednesday and Thursday last week saw a visit to the school from Debatemate who spent time with the students from M5, U5 and L6. They were taught various debating and public speaking techniques and for many of our students this was definitely outside their comfort zones. On Thursday morning Debatemate held a show debate – ‘Should parents have access to their children’s social media accounts’. As you can imagine a few of our students had some interesting points to make once the floor was opened up for discussion following what had been a lively debate!

Debatemate will now be coming into school each Wednesday as part of the L6 afternoon enrichment sessions and they will also be running an after school club for M5 and U5. In January we will be expanding this to years 6, 7 , 8 and 9 and one of our whole school priorities is to expand debating and public speaking across the school through House Events, Form Competitions and debating against other schools.

You can find out more about Debatemate here.
