The annual Politics Dinner was held this year at the Girls’ School, bringing together students from both schools and Hertsmere Academy. The evening began with socialising over starters and a political quiz, which proved to be a tricky challenge for some. Students were encouraged to exchange and discuss their views about current events in Politics. Then, served by the wonderful catering staff, came the main course, right before the invited guest speaker took to the microphone.

Luisa Porritt was elected to sit as a Liberal Democrat in the European Parliament in 2019, and is also a Liberal Democrat councillor for the London Borough of Camden. We were lucky enough to listen to her speak about her political journey and also gain insights into the current state of UK politics, particularly from her perspective inside the European Parliament. She faced many challenging questions on the Liberal Democrat policy on Brexit and the future of the EU and it was clear that the students were engaged with the key issues facing this country at the moment. The speech was followed by a delicious dessert and a few words from Mrs Wilding. The evening provided an opportunity for students to engage in lively debate and discussion and become more informed about politics.
