To celebrate the opening of our new STEM facilities we are delighted that Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock will deliver the inaugural Dr Luena Hatcher Lecture at on Thursday 24 September entitled Reaching for the Stars – When will we make it out there? Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock MBE
Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock is a space scientist whose passion is presenting science to a general audience. She has a degree in Physics and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College and is currently Presenter of BBC 4’s ‘Sky at Night’. She also makes regular appearances on The One Show, Newsnight and Woman’s Hour and was a guest on Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs. Her enthusiasm for promoting the enjoyment of science also led her to write ‘The book of the Moon’ and more recently her children’s book ‘Dr Maggie’s Grand Tour of the Solar System’.
Dr Luena Hatcher
The STEM building would not be possible without the generous bequest from Old Girl, Dr Luena Hatcher. She was part of the outgoing Class of 1944 and went on to the London School of Medicine.
Dr Hatcher devoted her life to medicine and helping people in need of special care. Her medical career took her across the world to Canada, Fiji and South Korea. On returning to England in 1967 she became a Consultant Radiologist and worked in hospitals in Southend and Newmarket. We are grateful for her generosity, which will enable many more Habs Girls to enjoy the sciences in our new STEM facilities.
