Lower 5 recently had part of the day off-timetable to learn more about the science behind various sporting activities.

Our Sports Science Day was full of so many intriguing activities and we had so much fun trying to beat the world records for each activity, although some were more difficult than others!

Each student got the opportunity to use the strength and agility training equipment to test their own skills against professionals and see both how they compared and what level they were at in terms of their age group. These included a 10m sprint time, a Batak score, a Watt bike max power, a jump height and many more. Through these activities we learnt about the wide range of science which is incorporated into and vital to making the training equipment, as well as the science used in the sports themselves, such as the aerodynamics of a bike.

Another aspect which we found fascinating was the medical side of the activities as not only did we find out if we were still going to grow but also got the chance to see our heartbeat and take our blood pressure. Our perspective on PE and science also changed, as it was interesting to see how the high-tech equipment worked to ensure the athletes are getting the most from their training.

Thank you to the PE and Science departments for organising such an excellent learning opportunity.
