General Studies

A carefully planned programme of General Studies provides girls in the Lower Sixth with opportunities to choose topics which provide contrast and enrichment to their other studies as well as useful skills and knowledge.

General Studies on a Friday is girls only, with compulsory courses on Physical Health and Wellbeing, Critical Thinking and Public Speaking. The Monday sessions are run jointly with the Boys’ School where the girls choose from a wide range of options.

The courses on offer vary each year; the programme has recently included the following:

  • Strictly Come Dancing: Jive & Salsa
  • Theatrical Make-Up
  • Victorian Culture
  • Yoga
  • You on YouTube

Guest speakers are also a part of the General Studies programme and are invited to talk on areas such as the law, politics, and image and presentation. Outings to law courts, galleries, theatres and museums may also be incorporated into the sessions.
