Sixth Form | Independent School | Haberdashers' Girls' School

You can judge a lot about a school from its Sixth Form; ours is fast-paced, hard-working and fun, and there is a huge amount on offer. We are proud of our Sixth Form and hope that you will come and see it for yourself.

For many students these two years are the most memorable and enjoyable part of their school life.  Here is where they make the final steps into adulthood, moving on from school into the world beyond. We aim to help them take those steps confidently and wisely through the experiences, challenges and support we offer.

Here are a few things you might like to know about our Sixth Form:

  • Tutor groups are small, usually 14 students, with the same tutor throughout both years.
  • Students can choose to study three or four A Level subjects over two years with public exams in each subject at the end of the Upper 6 year.
  • We have introduced an Aske’s Level as a supplement to A Levels, which will draw from the best elements of the IB.  From September 2022 we will also increase collaboration between ourselves and Habs Boys by ensuring that every sixth-former is taught at least one subject in a mixed-gender class.
  • We have a range of sixth form facilities: a Common Room available all day for everyone in the Sixth Form with a Cafeteria which serves a wide range of homemade cakes, savouries and drinks; The Mezz (a collaborative learning space with a Café for Sixth Form, staff and visitors); Careers study areas dedicated to Sixth Form study; and a “Green Room” in the Learning Resource Centre which can be booked for collaborative learning and meetings.
  • One of the best things about the Sixth Form is the opportunity to join (or start new) societies, and to acquire new skills and contacts, for example, Model United Nations, European Youth Parliament, Senior Choir, Science Society, etc.
  • There are plenty of leadership opportunities from leading and organising weekly clubs for the younger pupils (including the Junior School), coaching in a particular sport and mentoring in a subject area.
  • Students also participate in Prefect elections; can become House reps; run assemblies and get involved in all kinds of sport, dance and drama.
  • There are many volunteering opportunities as well as fundraising as part of the Sixth Form or within Houses.
  • There are also Sixth Form study afternoons – one afternoon a week to work from home, taking ever more responsibility for their own learning.
