Adrija Bhattacharyya and Ella Crowther (both Class of 2018) have set up the Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire branch of a nationwide campaign called National Health Supporters and are now regional co-coordinators.

This aims of the scheme are to match National Health Service workers with medical students who may be able to help with voluntary work, such as babysitting, food shopping, tutoring etc. There are branches of National Health Supporters for nearly all areas of the UK and you can read more about it on their website. Adrija and Ella would like to encourage any former students or parents who work in healthcare and who are in need of some help to access the support of the group through their local branch.

Adrija writes that,

“so far it has been a success, with hundreds of students and NHS workers signing up throughout the country. It was even given a special shoutout by Sadiq Khan [the Mayor of London] in his address to the nation and it has been picked up by several newspapers, including the Financial Times. Both Ella and I have both felt really rewarded by the sense of community that has formed and reading success stories from this scheme.

We are both enjoying our medical degrees and studying for our exams. I am due to join the NHS front line at Northwick Park Hospital in May while Ella is currently providing support for the family of an NHS Keyworker”.

Well done to Adrija and Ella and all of our other former students who are doing such important work at the moment.
