Ms Baker, our Head of Individual Needs, organised a talk at the end of last term about ADHD by Dr Kumaran Thevan, who is a Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist – a medical doctor trained and specialising in mental health and neurodevelopmental disorders. He has been working within the NHS for over 10 years and currently is an Honorary Consultant at Great Ormond Street Hospital and CAMHS Consultant in Windsor, Slough and Maidenhead.

His work is primarily based on assessing children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental conditions including ADHD, Autism and ASD, tics and OCD. He has developed a private clinic specialising in these conditions in high cognitive ability children and was able to give a real insight into the behaviour of those of our students with symptoms and diagnoses of ADHD, and also strategies for teachers to support them in class. Being a former Habs Boy himself, he has a very good understanding of the students we work with and how their difficulties might express themselves at school.

The talk was attended by 25 staff from both the Girls’ and Boys’ Schools.  Following on from the success of this event, Ms Baker has invited Dr Thevan to speak a second time to her Senco cluster group which is made up of Heads of SEN at independent schools around London and the South of England, although Zoom also allows colleagues in Scotland to take part!
