On Monday 11 January, Emma, Tilly (pictured) and Victoria from the Lower 6 took part in the English-Speaking Union Mace Debating competition. Due to Coronavirus restrictions, the debate took place over Zoom, which presented the students with a new and exciting format to debate their motion; government economic policy should prioritise the collective happiness and well-being of the population over economic growth.

Habs Girls took on the role of proposition and impressed with their arguments focusing on the belief that a Happiness index was a more appropriate measure of success than GDP. All three students performed exceptionally well bringing a range of interesting and challenging ideas into the debate. The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and look forward to being able to participate in more competitions in the future.
