Congratulations to all staff and students involved in a wonderful Carol Service at St Martin-in-the-Fields yesterday afternoon. The music was performed by Fourth Form Choir, Cantabile, Senior Choir and St Catherine Singers, with the congregational carols accompanied by organ and student brass group.

Habs Girls have been visiting St Martin-in-the-Fields for our annual Carol Service since 1969 and this year’s service included a number of traditional musical items as well as newer pieces of music. The carols included Wake O Wake, which has been performed at every Carol Service. A number of contemporary carols were performed included Sally Albrecht’s Lift Up Your Voice, Alleluia and Graham Ross’ beautiful arrangement of Holst’s In The Bleak Midwinter. The combined choirs closed the service with John Joubert’s Torches. We were also delighted to perform the winner of this year’s Carol Competition – Estelle Qin’s haunting Christ, Be Our Light was performed by a group of six St Catherine Singers.

The readings were given by people from across the school community, with a representatives of each year group reading first, followed by representatives of the staff, Old Haberdashers and governing body; the ninth lesson was read by the Headmistress. In attendance were Sixth Form students, parents and friends of the school, including former members of staff and Old Haberdashers.

Many thanks to all involved in what was a very special occasion and we look forward to returning to St Martin’s once again next year.
