Habs Choristers sang Evensong at St John the Baptist Church in Barnet on Saturday 25 March. It was the group’s third service since being formed in January 2022 and featured music typical of the English Choral Tradition. The Magnificat and Nunc dimittis were to a setting by T Tertius Noble in B minor, the psalm by Charles Villiers Stanford and the anthem was Ernest Bullock’s Give us the wings of faith. The introit was the 16th century composer Thomas Tallis’ If ye love me.

There are 17 Habs Choristers in Year 3 to Year 6 and the group rehearses twice a week before school. For services the choir is joined by a group of six professional singers, most of whom were Choral Scholars in the world-famous choir of St John’s College at Cambridge. The choristers are looking forward to their next service in June, when they will visit Cambridge to sing Evensong in the chapel of Corpus Christi College.
