Warmest welcome to our new Headmistress, Dr Hazel Bagworth-Mann, who joins us from North London Collegiate School. Dr Bagworth-Mann joins Habs Girls after being part of the NLCS community for over seventeen years. During this time, she held a number of different roles including Assistant Head of Upper School, Head of Middle School, Pastoral Deputy Head and more recently Interim Headmistress. She is a Historian by training and has a keen interest in the history of education and in particular the development of girls education in the 19th century. We are thrilled that she is also teaching Upper Fourth (Year 8) History this year!
Dr Bagworth-Mann commented, ‘”I have received such a warm welcome to Habs from the whole community. Working with staff we will continue to reinforce a culture of scholarship and intellectual curiosity, ensuring that subject expertise is at the heart of every lesson. We want to encourage all our students to seek academic challenges and to develop a real love and excitement for their subjects.”
Dr Bagworth-Mann feels passionately about the importance of developing the whole child, providing an education that is underpinned by strong pastoral care where students feel safe and secure and are known as individuals. She also believes in the importance of ensuring that all our students can explore the richness of opportunities available outside of the classroom, allowing them to try new things and develop interests in a range of different areas. Dr Bagworth-Mann added, “At Habs our exciting and varied co-curricular programme and partnership initiatives give our students opportunities for teamwork, responsibility and leadership. We also want our students to build warm and positive relationships with all members of the Habs community, creating a strong sense of belonging where kindness and consideration for others are at the centre of our approach.”
As a school our aim is to provide an ambitious and inspirational education for young people, that will enable them to have a profound impact on our community here in Elstree but also in the world around them. Our teachers strive to inspire our students, demonstrating their love and passion for their subjects and passing this on in the classroom. By creating a magical environment, we can stretch and inspire our students, encouraging them to be curious and courageous and ensuring every member of our school feels valued, supported and encouraged.
Dr Bagworth-Mann continued “I also want to give a warm welcome to Mr Robert Sykes, Headmaster of Habs Boys. I am particularly thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Robert again and continue to strengthen the relationship between our schools. I also very much look forward to working with Mr Gus Lock, formerly Headmaster of Habs Boys, as he moves to his new role as Executive Principal of the Haberdashers’ Elstree Schools.
