Moksha (3A), a student at Habs Girls’ School has been honoured with a prestigious Points of Light award by Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak.
Handed her award by Oliver Dowden, Moksha discussed her work with the Deputy PM, presenting him with her painting, ‘Rainbow of Change’. The painting will be displayed in his Whitehall office, with the Deputy Prime Minister citing Moksha as an “excellent example” and an ‘inspiration to others’.
Our young campaigner also received a personal letter from Rishi Sunak to thank her for writing to world leaders on the importance of teaching children about sustainability.
Moksha’s Point of Light award was also covered by the BBC, ITV, Metro, National Geographic, The Guardian, NDTV and other media outlets around the world. With her message reaching over 100 million people globally, the young student also recorded a video message shared at COP27.
Recognised as the world’s youngest sustainability advocate, 7-year-old Moksha has been advocated for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals since the age of three. She has also received multiple awards for her work, which includes calling for the UN’s sustainability and climate goals to be part of the UK curriculum.
With the inclusion accepted, the change in policy has been rolled out to more than 16 million children around the country. Meanwhile, at school, Moksha has started a ‘Green Team’ with friends, exchanging ideas on small amazing work. Her award is an inspiring reminder that everyone can play their part in a more sustainable world, at whatever age.
As Moksha explains, “It is only when everyone taking positive actions, can we have a safer planet and a sustainable future”.
