During the summer Anjali in Upper 6 entered the Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award, an international competition and the biggest poetry competition in the world for under 18s. This year there were over 11,000 entries and, after an awards ceremony at the South Bank, we were delighted to hear that Anjali was placed in the top 100 entries.

Run by The Poetry Society, the competition was judged by Raymond Antrobus (photographed with Anjali) and Jackie Kay. The stimulus for Anjali’s poem was challenging – the rape of Maya Angelou and her subsequent muteness for several years. Anjali’s prize included membership of the National Poetry Library and The Poetry Society and were are proud of and excited by her achievements.
