This week, as part of our Habs Community series, we highlight more of the amazing volunteering activities of our students.  Needless to say but we are extremely proud of them!

Lydia in Upper 5 volunteers each Saturday evening for a charity by picking up unsold breads and pastries from the Gail’s bakery chains, where they then get delivered to vulnerable people who need food, such as in community shelters.

Emily Pasi, Charlotte Grant, Ella Aharony and Sophie Broomberg also in Upper 5 have partnered with a non profit organisation called Her Drive, which collects bras and menstrual care products for people who need them within our area (for them this is North West London). Limited access to feminine care products is a huge public health issue but with Her Drive, they aim to close the gap for individuals who are disproportionately affected by poverty and homelessness. Particularly during a lockdown, it’s a lot more difficult for people to access these items than ever before.

They have done lots of advertising and Zoom calls in preparation and after their first 2 days of donations managed to collect over 100 items!

They have four locations for people to drop their donations (in Radlett, Elstree/Borehamwood and Arkley/Mill Hill) and have arranged how to keep them COVID friendly.  If you’d like to make a donation please contact the school and we will put you in touch.

Rachel in Lower 5 is taking part in the England Lacrosse wall ball challenge (the aim is to get sponsored for every 100 catches you do against a wall). So far she’s completed 1,700 and is hoping to finish with 5000. Rachel has raised over £350 so far which all goes towards the Raspberry Pi foundation who are buying computers for children who need them for home learning during lockdown.
