Good luck to our team of Upper 4 students who have made it through to the semi-final of the CyberFirst Girls Competition on 19 March.  Here they write about their experience so far.

This year our team, the Marauders, which consists of Larissa, Maryam, Mim and Énora, decided to enter the CyberFirst Girls competition 2021. We decided to enter because we wanted something fun to do and thought it would be a fun challenge over lockdown as we all enjoy coding.

The qualifier consisted of four categories; logic and coding, networking, cyber-security and our favourite – cryptography. We had 10 days to complete as may challenges as we could. In each category, there were a variety of different challenges ranging in level from from beginner to expert.

Each question encouraged us to learn new skills such as decrypting the ‘railroad cipher’ or more complicated skills such as ‘hashing.’ We spent many hours outside of school completing challenges either individually or together on calls.

We would definitely recommend this amazing experience to any future Year 8 students and we can’t wait for the next round!
