At the start of the Easter holidays in 1954, a group of staff and Sixth Formers made the first overseas school trip to Italy visiting Florence and Rome.

The school party left from Victoria Station on 31 March.  Most of the party of Sixth Formers were studying arts subjects but 2 or 3 places had been drawn for science students.  Having arrived in Rome, on Friday 2 April they began their exploration of the city and spent the next 7 days sightseeing including a day trip to Pompeii.  On Saturday 10 April, the party got up extremely early and took a train to Florence where they spent the next 3 days.  After 12 days in Italy they began their return journey to London.

Here are some pictures from the trip.
