On Thursday 24 June, the History and Politics Societies met to hear a fascinating talk from our own Lower 6 student Emma Levy. Emma presented on her Aske level which was entitled: What was the response of Spanish Jewry to their persecution in the 14th and 15th centuries?

She discussed the political and economic climate and how it contributed to the Jewish community’s response, which varied between genuine conversion, crypto-Jewry and leaving Spain altogether to safely practise Judaism. What I found most interesting was how Emma’s family have been able to use their Spanish roots from hundreds of years ago to understand more about her ancestral heritage..

There was a great turnout for such an interesting topic which many of us knew very little about. Thank you and well done Emma!
