Sarina (U6) writes that last week Victoria (U6) gave a presentation to PolSoc discussing the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP26, being held in Glasgow between 31 October and 12 November. The discussion had a high attendance from pupils across the school interested in the government’s role in improving our climate crisis, what has happened at past conferences and what we can look to in the future. This engaging discussion introduced younger students into debates around current events and we were fortunate to hear a range of opinions on many thought-provoking questions such as should developing countries receive aid from developed countries in order to meet global climate goals, is India justified in delaying its net zero target by 20 years to 2070, and how will we know if COP26 is successful?

Subsequently the Environment Prefect with PolSoc, comprised of Neeve, Victoria, Priya and Sarina, will be led a whole school assembly to further increase awareness about climate change, COP26 and our role individually and as a school to address the climate crisis.

We were delighted to engage in Victoria’s discussion and look forward to continuing raising awareness about climate change and tracking the progress of this conference.
