On Tuesday 7 June 2022, Year 12 politics A Level students went to Westminster to engage in two exciting tours of the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. In the morning, we were lucky enough to be shown around the Houses of Parliament and were even able to look around the House of Lords. The highlight of the morning was seeing the Speaker of the House Sir Lindsay Hoyle walk into the House of Commons, as well as the opposition day debate that we viewed from the gallery.

In the afternoon, we went on an engaging tour of Westminster Abbey, where we were able to see and learn about the memorials present in Westminster Abbey, such as the Unknown Warrior. We learnt a lot about the history of many monarchs and interesting figures in society including Queen Elizabeth I, Newton, and Stephen Hawking. It was extremely enlightening to learn about the rich history of Westminster Abbey, as many historical events have a political impact. Our tour guide also took us to walk around Whitehall, where we were able to see the buildings where many major political events took place, such as the Supreme Court.

Overall, the trip was engaging and very educational as it widened our knowledge of both politics and history.
