Following their success at the Southeast and London regional forum of the European Youth Parliament in March, we were delighted that a group of five Lower Sixth students from the Girls’ School and three Lower Sixth students from the Boys’ School were invited to take part in the Summer National Session of European Youth Parliament UK. This took place at Liverpool Hope University between Thursday 30 June and Sunday 3 July. The theme for the session was “Reconnect: Bringing communities together, cooperating for change.” The topics debated centred on welfare issues in the wake of the global pandemic.
After travelling to Liverpool from London Euston Station, Claudia, Evie, Joystna, Maddie, Mollie, Aditya, Jesse, Josh took part in four days of team-building activity, committee work and resolution writing and General Assembly debate. This was the first in-person EYPUK National Session to take place in three years. The long weekend was a chance for our students to learn more about the EYP network, to make friends among delegates from the fourteen schools present and to improve their skills of communication and persuasion.
The team displayed a positive, determined and energetic approach throughout the highly enjoyable conference. They also had a lot of fun. We would like to thank the board, chairs and organisers of the conference for allowing them to take part in a fantastic learning opportunity.
